My former company, Taligent, Inc., is no longer. IBM absorbed Taligent into Big Blue. While I was "vital to the transition", I became "redundant". My official Taligent title was "Technical Therapist". Basically, I was a hand holder, trainer, fixer of all things and tried to keep people from jumping out the window when anything went wrong. I worked for Cisco Systems for awhile as a "Data Center Installer". The Data Centers are huge rooms with lots of equipment (routers, switches, servers, etc.). It was cold and impersonal and too much like housekeeping. As a big corporation, there were too many people vying for power and building little fiefdoms. Now I'm in business for myself. My new company is "Star Gaze" and is just about as far from Cisco and computers as I can get. I'm also back working for Apple part time in retail, just to keep my hand in.
I have been a Sky Child since I was two years old. My earliest memory is of my first flight in an airplane at age two when my father (old Navy Captain) was transferred from Staten Island, NY to Long Beach, CA (Skydivers, no beer for that, it was too long ago). The Navy moved us around a lot but I spent most of my life somewhere in California. Dreams of flight made it easy to get into Skydiving. Check out my Sock Puppet.
In 1988, I started a job with Apple Computer, doing technical support for trade shows. I switched over to the Pink project just before it became Taligent, initially a joint venture between Apple and IBM. Taligent became a wholly owned subsidiary after the death of our CEO and is now fully absorbed into IBM. While "vital to the transition", I became "redundant" once it was done.
I have been flying a camera for awhile now. Check the gallery for the good shots.
While Skydiving is my current, all consuming passion, I've been known to indulge in music, pottery and poetry. I love anything that flies and maintain a few bonsai. I'm a pretty good cook and love kitchen gadgets. Some people say I am a pretty good amatuer massage therapist! If I could ever decide on a single thing to which to devote all my attention, I could probably be the best in the world. But that wouldn't be as much fun, I'm sure.
